DUTY CYCLE The solar lantern shall provide a minimum of eight (8) hours of lighting per day under average daily solar radiation conditions of 5Kwh/sq.m. on a horizontal surface 2. LAMP i. The lamp will be of light emitting diode (LED) type with a rating of at least 3W ii. The lamp shall be cylindrical in configuration and mounted upright. iii. The minimum light output shall be 300 Lumen at 1 Metre distance. 3. BATTERY i. The battery shall be either 6V or 12V ii. The battery will sealed maintenance free type iii. The capacity of the battery will be a minimum of 7.0AH at 12V at C/20 discharge rate at 200 C OR a minimum of 14AH at 6V at C/10 discharge at 200 C 4. ELECTRONICS i. The lantern shall have an on/off switch to control the lamp. ii. The overall efficiency of the control electronics shall not be less than 80%. iii. The idle current (the current- consumed when, the lamp is switched OFF and no charging is in progress) should not be more than 1mA iv. The PCB containing the electronics shall be of solder free installation and placement. v. Electronics should operate at 12V or 6V (depending upon the model) and should have temperature compensation for proper charging of the battery throughout the year. vi. Battery cut offs & reconnects should be provided to protect it against overcharge and deep discharge conditions. vii. A fuse shall be provided to protect against short circuit conditions. viii. Full protection against open circuit accidental short circuit and reverse polarity shall be provided. 5. PV MODULE i. The PV module shall be separate from the lantern and shall have an aluminium frame. ii. The PV module shall a minimum wattage rating of 3WP.
