GENERAL:This specification governs the requirement of high conductivity annealed rectangularcopper conductors insulated with one half lap layer of epoxy bonded polyester filmbacked resin poor mica paper tape. The insulated conductor has a temperature index of atleast 155degree centigrate after processing (VPI impregnation) with suitable resin-hardener system.2. APPLICATION:For manufacturing multi-turn diamond coils of A.C.Machines with VPI Insulation systemand voltage per turn less than or equal to 250 volts.3. COMPLIANCE WITH NATIONAL STANDARDS:There is no Indian Standard covering this type of material.4. SIZES:4.1 The conductor shall be supplied to the size specified on our order.5. TEST METHOD:As stated against each clause.6. SAMPLE FOR TEST:5 meter long sample of taped conductor shall be supplied for testing and approval.7. JOINTS:No joints shall be made in the copper conductor after it is drawn to final size. Joints madeduring the drawing process shall be resistance welded only.8. CONDUCTOR:8.1 Conductor Material:The bare conductor shall be manufactured from high conductivity copper complying withAA 12030 Rectangular Copper Conductors-Annealed, Controlled Oxygen.Note: - It is preferable to manufacture conductor from Continuous cast copper rodsprovided all other acceptance parameters & conditions remain same.9. INSULATION:9.1 Epoxy Bonded Polyester Film Backed Resin Poor Mica Paper TapeMica paper with backing of polyester film having epoxy resin as binder and conformingto BP 25182 shall be used for insulation.9.2 Application of TapeOne layer of tape shall be applied with 42% to 50% overlapping. The direction of thetape head shall be such that while taping, polyester layer of the tape faces outside.Load the bare copper conductor drum on the supply spool, and pass one end of theconductor through the taping machine. Apply one half lap layer of mica paper tape on theconductor. The starting and finishing ends of the tape shall be held in position byapplying self adhesive polyester tape.To prevent the inclusion of copper dust or other extraneous matter under the tapecovering, the conductor shall be fully cleaned by felt pads or other suitable meansimmediately before entering the mica taping machine.The taping shall be completely free from defects such as loose taping, wrinkles,mechanical damages, undue built-up, overlapping greater than 50% etc.The taped conductor shall be wound closely and tightly on the take-up spool. Care shallbe taken to avoid any damage to the conductor insulation at this stage. Twisting ofconductors shall also be avoided.10. INCREASE IN DIMENSIONS DUE TO COVERING:The increase in dimensions due to covering shall be 0.4 mm, Nominal11. TESTS ON CONDUCTOR AFTER REMOVAL OF INSULATION:The covered conductor after removal of Epoxy Bonded Polyester Film Backed ResinPoor Mica Paper Tape shall meet the following requirements.11.1 Hardness TestArea of Cross Section Hardness (HV)Up to and including 8 mm2 63, Max. Above 8 mm2 60, Max. 11.2 Stiffness Test (up to 10 mm width)The straightened conductor of 600 mm length, shall be placed with the width horizontalon 2 Rollers of 15 mm dia. Axial distance between the roller shall be 400 mm.
